2nd Circular

Dear Colleague,

With less than four months before of the RAI in Switzerland, we want to provide you with additional information on program and practical matters.

First, we would like to remind you that 1 April is the deadline for submitting abstracts, posters, and workshop programs. You will find the necessary information on our website.

Twelve workshops will be part of the program. For descriptions and contacts please consult our website. A preliminary program can also be found.

Our venues will be UNI Mail, Boulevard du Pont d’Arve 40, in Geneva, and Schanzeneck (Uni-S) and Main Building on the central campus in Bern. On-site registration will be possible both in Geneva and Bern. You will find more information on the venues on our here.

Welcome and introduction to the main theme will be shared between Geneva and Bern, on Monday morning and Wednesday evening, respectively. We will offer free transport by bus from Geneva to Bern on Wednesday, 24 June. When you register, you will have the possibility to choose between transport only and transport including a visit to Fribourg and the Bible+Orient Museum, which was recently reopened in a new location.

The General Meeting of the International Association for Assyriology will be held on Wednesday, 24 June, 3:30–5:30 pm, in Bern (Uni-S).

Receptions will take place on Tuesday evening in Geneva and on Wednesday evening in Bern. There will also be a LIP-party for younger scholars organized by our PhD students.

On Saturday, 27 June, following the RAI, the Swiss Society for Ancient Near Eastern Studies (SGOA/SSBO) will convene in Bern (UniS) and discuss Philology and Archaeology: Dialogue in Crisis. Andrew George, Cécile Michel, Julian Reade, and Johanna Tudeau will speak, and Irene Winter will moderate. Everybody is welcome to attend, no fees charged. Please save the date.

Switzerland is expensive, but we are doing our best to keep your costs for accommodation low. You will find special hotel rates and affordable student lodgements here. In Bern, special rates for hotels are available only when you book 60 days in advance, i.e. by 22 April.

The third circular is planned for May 2015. Should you have any questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us (sabine.ecklin@iaw.unibe.ch).

We look forward to receiving you in Switzerland,
